Health Partners New England, a Winchester company specializing in behavioral health care, has purchased 7.5 acres of land from MassDevelopment at 85 Patton Road in Devens. Health Partners New England and GFI Partners will build a 75,000-square-foot treatment center – Health Partners Treatment and Recovery Center – on the site. The 104-bed treatment center will provide short-term inpatient care to patients with psychiatric and substance abuse problems. Health Partners New England estimates the treatment Center will create more than 200 jobs and will open in the fall of 2016.

“As the home to businesses specializing in science and healthcare innovation, Devens is an ideal location for a front-line treatment center,” said MassDevelopment President and CEO Marty Jones. “85 Patton Road provides Health Partners Treatment and Recovery Center with plenty of space near industry leaders along with Devens’s excellent infrastructure, utilities, and location. We’re pleased to welcome Health Partners New England to the Devens community.”

Since 1998, Health Partners New England and its founder Dr. Michael Krupa have provided consultation, interim leadership, and multi-year management for more than 60 behavioral health care organizations across the country, including the development of new psychiatric programs. Dr. Krupa is a Harvard-educated psychologist with more than 25 years of clinical and administrative experience.

“Devens provides an ideal location for this state-of –the art facility with its proximity to central Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and northwestern Middlesex County. The location provides easy access for patients and families as well as the professional and support staff who will work at the facility to provide innovative patient-centered care. Our interest in the property began over a year ago following a presentation by Peter Lowitt of the Devens Enterprise Commission and was supported by the phenomenal staff of the Commission and MassDevelopment,” said Dr. Krupa.

Located in north-central Massachusetts and managed by MassDevelopment, Devens hosts businesses, government organizations, and nonprofits employing more than 4,000 people. Created by statute in 1993 to support business growth and attract economic development opportunities in the region, the 4,400-acre site features fast-track permitting and other incentives for businesses. The former military installation is recognized today as a national model for military base redevelopment. Along with its business tenants, the Devens community also includes more than 2,100 acres of recreation and open space, private residences, schools, and a network of human and social services providers.

MassDevelopment, the state’s finance and development agency, works with businesses, nonprofits, financial institutions, and communities to stimulate economic growth across the Commonwealth. During FY2014, MassDevelopment financed or managed 314 projects generating investment of more than $2.9 billion in the Massachusetts economy. These projects are projected to create more than 6,300 jobs and build or rehabilitate more than 1,600 residential units.
